Sounds, editing, camera shot angles, and mise-en-scene are all important film elements. In the short film that was presented, the sounds that were played emphasized the emotion, the tension, and the tone of the film. The sounds at the beginning were of intense song and of a spaceship crashing, switching back and forth in the scenes created a sad environment because Steve Rogers was about to die, and Agent Carter was crying. Adding the sounds of the spaceship failing and background music created the scene to be sad and emotional. In another scene, she is fighting some bodyguards and the background sounds consisted of punches and aggressive music. The sounds played a part in showing how Agent Carter’s self is fighting two men by herself and going to defeat them.
Camera shot angles, movement and composition in the short film has shown significance in many scenes. At the beginning of the film, Agent Carter was listening to Steve and crying because he was about to crash and die; the camera angle was close-up to her face to highlight that she was sad, this created the scene and made the viewer feel bad for her. Before Agent Carter left to go to the fight, the camera was positioned over the shoulder to show her dominance, importance, and confidence. As she started the fight, the camera was set positioned at knee level which showed how she knocked the men off their feet and onto the ground, standing in dominance after winning the fight. There was also a camera movement made to show how quick she was with her punches and kicks, proving that she is skilled fighter.
The editing of the film made the film be so put together. Cutting the scenes back and forth that were taken place at same time (simultaneity) made it seem humorous; when Agent Carter was in the fight the scenes were getting cut to her fighting and to an officer eating while having
no idea what is going on outside. The short film also included leitmotif, in the scene where Carter is crying because Steve is about to die, the sounds of the spaceship crashing don’t stop even when the camera is on Agent Carter who isn’t even in the spaceship.
Finally, the short film involved Mise-en-scene because of the location, emotions, and actions of the characters. The location of the scenes put the characters into the mood and have closer to real emotions. If it wasn’t for Steve dying because the spaceship was crashing and she was on call with him, Agent Carter wouldn’t have been so emotional. There was a lot of action and thrillers during the film when she was getting attacked. It was thrilling to see all of her fighting moves and putting them to use to fight the 2 guys that wanted to hurt her. There was also another thriller when she was walking around the office because she was stating her ground, and she wasn’t going to let anyone put her down till she gets what she wants.
